
Project Manager
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: (Required)
The City of Austin D/B/A Austin Energy requires the services of one Project Manager hereafter referred to as Worker, who meet the general qualification Project Manager 2 and the specifications outlined in this document for Austin Energy.

Austin Energy is the 8th largest community-owned electric utility in the country. We serve more than 420,000 customers and a population of almost one million. We provide service within the City of Austin, Travis County, and a small portion of Williamson County. Our annual revenues total $1.2 billion. The Utility has a diverse generation portfolio of more than 2,600 megawatts of traditional generation and more than 450 megawatts of renewable energy. Austin Energy has led the nation in sales of renewable energy by a utility-sponsored program for the last seven years in a row. The Utility also offers some of the most comprehensive rebates in the country for residential and commercial customers to make energy-efficiency improvements to their homes and buildings.
WORK DESCRIPTION:
Austin Energy is recruiting for a highly experienced and effective project manager to manage projects that directly align with the utility s strategic plan. This position will report to the Program Manager of Projects and Technologies and will be responsible for end-to-end project completion. Austin Energy's Projects and Technologies Program is part of the utility s Advanced Grid Technologies group, focused on core and emerging utility technology. The successful candidate will have exceptional skills in project management and change management with experience managing technology projects, IT/OT systems integration, business process recommendations, project budgets, and deliverables. The candidate must also exhibit demonstrated success in managing stakeholder relations and working with vendors, consultants, and cross-functional teams.
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned:
- Direct and manage project development from beginning to end, submit proposals, and recommend subsequent budget, scope, and schedule changes and/or contingency plans where necessary
- Develop project scope, cost estimates, human resource requirements, work plans, time schedules, communication plans, and make work assignments to meet project or program objectives
- When necessary, assist in writing Request For Information/Request for Proposals for external services and business plans for internal executive approval
- Develop project plans and associated communications documents, identify and manage project dependencies and critical path, and track and report on project milestones and deliverables
- Develop written business requirements and models
- Request the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals and where required, from other department managers and participate in the acquisition of required personnel within the City of Austin
- Own the business relationship with subject matter experts and their leadership from project kickoff to close out
- Direct tasks/work for a project team comprised of subject matter experts from Utility IT, Business, and external vendors
- Define the project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle
- Identify, analyze, and create risk-based scenarios to drive project decisions
- Effectively communicate project expectations to sponsor, team members, and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion, and facilitate project management and project status review meetings
- Develop successful transition, training plans, and recognition for resources on the project team
- Assist in the development of a forecast/project timeline and project plan for achieving utility Grid Modernization goals through FY2025

4-7 | Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Visio, WebEx |
4-7 | Proficient in change management methodologies |
4-7 | Proficient in presenting to multiple levels within an organization |

- Full-time remote work for those outside of central Texas is NOT PREFERRED, however, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
