The Senior Packaging Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of packaging solutions for our medical devices. This role requires a deep understanding of packaging materials, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in packaging engineering, project management, and cross-functional collaboration, preferably within the medical device industry.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of packaging solutions for new and existing medical devices.

Ensure packaging designs comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Manage packaging projects from concept through commercialization.

Develop and maintain packaging specifications, drawings, and documentation.

Create new packaging designs, generate/evaluate prototypes, and produce technical drawings/specifications utilizing CAD software

Collaborate with product divisions to identify and advise on user needs, design requirements and risk management.

Collaborate with laboratory personnel on packaging design verification and validation testing including test plan development and custom test method development.

Collaborate with product divisions to identify packaging/product development opportunities, establish innovation pipelines, and align product design efforts with long-term divisional strategies

Collaborate with domestic and international manufacturers to validate packaging designs and troubleshoot problems that arise.

Support design transfer to manufacturing sites and new product implementation process including process validations.

Leverage customer interactions to incorporate human factors and user-centered design philosophies into packaging design efforts.

Manage multiple project timelines and balance corporate priorities for product development projects to ensure that deadlines and goals are being met.

Review existing products and recommend packaging designs/improvements based on existing complaints, risk analyses, manufacturer feedback, cost saving opportunities, etc.

Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.

Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices

Mentor junior team members.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably in the medical device industry.
Strong knowledge of packaging materials, processes, and equipment.
Experience with medical device packaging requirements for different sterilization methods
Experience with packaging validation and verification.
Experience with medical device requirements (Class I-II), design controls, and assessment of risk
Familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 11607, FDA, EU MDR).
Excellent project management and organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with Solidworks/3D modeling software.

The anticipated salary range for this position:

$85,280.00 - $123,760.00 Annual

The actual salary will vary based on applicant's location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. This role is bonus and/or incentive eligible. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
