ABA Authorization Specialist (PA ABA IBHS Experience) (Remote)
We are adding an Authorization Specialist to our growing team! We are looking for candidates experienced in obtaining authorizations in Pennsylvania for ABA IBHS services. Experience with Maryland and Virginia are also a plus!
The Authorization Specialist is responsible for handling client authorizations and reauthorizations with insurance payors, ensuring that all required approvals are in place for services to continue uninterrupted. This position plays a critical role in supporting our clients' care journeys by preventing authorization-related delays and by collaborating with clinicians, administrative staff, and insurance representatives.

Your Role
- Authorization Management: Obtain initial authorizations for new clients and manage reauthorizations for existing clients in a timely manner to prevent service disruptions.
- Communication with Payors: Contact insurance providers and third-party payors to secure approvals for client services, respond to requests for additional information, and resolve authorization issues.
- Documentation & Tracking: Maintain accurate records of all authorizations, reauthorizations, and communications with payors in the client management system; ensure documentation meets compliance standards.
- Client and Staff Support: Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to communicate authorization status, resolve authorization barriers, and advise on best practices for authorization processes.
- Compliance & Process Improvement: Stay up-to-date with payor policies and guidelines to ensure compliance; identify and recommend improvements to the authorization process for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
- Office Assistance: Perform administrative reports, enter and maintain data into the electronic health record system for client and staff items, order supplies for staff and clients as needed, and other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to StepOne
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in coordinating authorization, reauthorizations, insurance verifications, and performing similar communication with healthcare payors, within a Pennsylvania-based IBHS ABA behavioral health setting.
- Strong knowledge of Pennsylvania health insurance practices, including commercial payors and Medicaid. Maryland and Virginia a plus.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills with an ability to explain complex information to both clients and payors.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and understanding billing systems.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize multiple tasks.
