Position Summary

The Assistant Professor in Animation and Illustration at Pratt Munson College of Art and Design is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in 2D animation and illustration. The professor will mentor undergraduate students, guide them in their academic and professional development, and contribute to an interdisciplinary art and design curriculum.

This role includes teaching a variety of introductory and intermediate courses, participating in departmental and college committees, and staying engaged in professional development and creative practice. The professor is expected to integrate traditional and emerging technologies in animation and illustration while fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment.

Additionally, the position requires advising students, developing course materials, and staying current with industry trends. The successful candidate will have a strong record of professional experience in 2D animation and illustration, proficiency in industry-standard tools, and a demonstrated commitment to student success.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of introductory and intermediate courses in 2D Animation and Illustration.
  • Mentor undergraduate students.
  • Advise students on coursework, projects, and career development.
  • Participate in departmental and college committees.
  • Engage in professional development and remain active in the field.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MFA or terminal degree in Animation, Illustration, or a related field (e.g., Media Arts, Digital Media, Game Design). Equivalent industry experience and a masters degree (MA or MS) may be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.
  • At least four years of professional experience in 2D animation or illustration.
  • Proficiency in current industry tools and practices for 2D animation and illustration.
  • College-level teaching experience with a demonstrated commitment to student success in digital art, animation, and/or illustration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in student learning in areas such as storyboarding, visual storytelling, time-based media, digital rendering, motion illustration, and experiential creative technology.
  • Experience in both 2D animation and illustration (3D skills and knowledge of 3D digital rendering are a plus).
  • An active record of professional achievement and creative scholarship.
