We are currently seeking an Intern to be a part of the Economic & Community Development team at Urban Grid. The Economic & Community Development team is a dynamic group who supports our project communities, developers and project stakeholders through research, grass-roots initiatives, outreach, strategic partnerships and community events and activities.

This is a paid internship that will start on or around June 2, 2025, with an end date of August 8, 2025.

During the 10-week program, interns will participate in virtual, company-wide and department meetings, virtual monthly Friday lunch & learn trainings and a culminating group presentation on your overall internship experience. The program is structured to provide exposure to careers in renewable energy, best practices in internal communications as part of a remote team and best of all, the opportunity to work and support a team of professionals who are experts in their field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct online research and analysis of local county meetings, media, and permitting requirements
  • Develop, edit, and write content for newsletters, websites, Share Point site, mailings, and project collateral
  • Attend and participate in project-related meetings to support the planning and logistics of project-related activities, local events, etc.
  • Maintain organized digital files and support updates to project management systems for efficient tracking and communication
  • Additional duties as required


Location

This position will be a hybrid/ remote position in Charlottesville, VA with periodic meetups with our team in the field. Position will require a trip to one of the project sites VA.

Candidate to work full-time hours Monday - Friday during the summer duration of the internship.

Requirements

  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sustainability, or related field, must be a sophomore or above
  • Interest in renewable energy, solar in particular
  • Solid MS Office Suite skills
  • Design skills a plus (Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Excellent communicator with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work with minimal direction
  • Ability to perform duties in a collaborative working environment
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative with project-related assignments
  • Interest in local community engagement activities in support of our renewable energy projects including some light travel to events and local government meetings
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with a shared interest in saving the world!
