Job Description

This position is located in the Division of Blind Services in Tallahassee, Florida. This is a highly responsible administrative position under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director in the Division of Blind Services (DBS). The incumbent will work on behalf of the Division and lead efforts to enhance and grow DBS business partnerships and employment opportunities for the blind and visually impaired individuals served by the Division of Blind Services statewide. This position will work with staff, partners, community stakeholders, and businesses to enhance/expand workforce-related training, educational opportunities, and services for blind and visually impaired individuals. The Workforce Coordinator will also help build community and business partnerships to improve employment outcomes for the Division of Blind Services clients.

Examples Of Work

  • Help develop, deliver, or coordinate workforce services for blind and visually impaired individuals.
  • Work with staff, partners, community stakeholders, businesses, and program participants to expand workforce-related training, education, and services for blind and visually impaired individuals, including:
    • Employment opportunities
    • Registered apprenticeship opportunities
    • On-the-job training opportunities
    • WIOA-funded training and co-enrollment opportunities
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other employment and training programs and workforce partners (Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, CareerSource Florida, Florida Department of Commerce, and other workforce stakeholders).
  • Help build community and business partnerships to improve employment outcomes.
  • Assist the Bureau of Client Services and DBS districts with creating strategies and processes to identify clients for placement into high-skilled/high-wage, in-demand competitive, integrated employment opportunities.
  • Coordinate and/or deliver assistance and training to partners and businesses to:
    • Increase awareness about the low cost of accommodations/resources available to assist with accommodations.
    • Educate employers about varying degrees of visual impairment and the employability of Florida’s talented visually impaired workforce.
    • Educate employers about incentives for hiring individuals with visual impairments, such as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.
  • Help expand DBS’ presence and membership on Local Workforce Development Boards.
  • Lead efforts to create new or enhance existing registered apprenticeship programs designed to improve and increase apprenticeship opportunities for blind and visually impaired clients. The incumbent may be required to:
    • Plan or participate in small- or large-scale events that convene stakeholders and other partners (sponsors, employers, related technical instruction providers, DBS, CTAE staff, State Apprenticeship Advisory Council) to present and/or discuss DBS action plans and recommendations.
  • Facilitate meetings and discussions.
  • Conduct surveys or focus groups to gather information about client employment and training skill needs.
  • Evaluates employer partner needs to identify and create opportunities for new programs and/or recommend strategies to make existing programs more accessible to individuals with disabilities.
  • Lead or assist with planning, designing, and implementing new programs to address changing community needs.
  • Draft reports, action plans, and short- and long-term strategies to improve accessibility for blind and visually impaired individuals interested in Registered Apprenticeships.
  • Some travel is required for this position (times per year varies based on workload needs).
