About The Role

As a key leader of the R&D Data Science Solutions organization, you will report to the Chief R&D Data Science Officer. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement a data strategy, platform and data solutions to empower Research & Development with data science and digital health at scale.

Leveraging your expertise, you will drive Data Solutions, Data Science Solutions and/or Platforms that deliver high-impact insights and effectively communicate the value of data to to our R&D business stakeholders. You will partner with Information Technology team to ensure that data, platforms and products are aligned and supporting and accelerating the Therapeutic Areas, R&D functions such as Global Development, GRA and DPDS strategies. This team will explore new methods to acquire and leverage data to support our business, for instance, providing access and solutions to leverage unstructured data, and enable data solutions that bring together structured and unstructured data to advance R&D portfolio and productivity.

  • Lead R&D Data strategy, seeking continuous optimization of our data partnerships.
  • Lead and represent R&D within IM and across sectors to advanced data standardization across the enterprise.
  • Lead the implementation and scalability of our data science platforms and solutions, guaranteeing the business case and usability of the solutions and their maintenance across the life cycle.
  • Oversee data acquisition, data governance, data standardization, data modeling, data architecture and data science solution development, and the productionalization of solutions as needed.
  • Partner with the R&D Data Science & Digital Health Sr Leadership Team, IT to design the use cases, validate their business value and develop and deploy algorithms and models using AI/Machine Learning, and ensure the interpretability of results for maximum impact.
  • Partner with our IT organization to guarantee the scalability of the technology and the platform architecture over time.
  • Establish high standards of excellence through professional expertise and strong leadership of people within the team.
  • Foster a data-driven culture and enhance the skills of a high-performing Data Science team focused on driving innovation and efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, becoming a trusted advisor on business data, analytics techniques, and underlying business drivers concerning data governance, IT security, data privacy, and ethical AI use cases.

Qualifications

  • A minimum education level of a master’s degree or MBA is required; a PhD or MD degree is highly Preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 years' experience is required
  • Critical experience in developing, communicating, implementing and executing bespoke strategies
  • Critical experience with R&D in either biopharmaceutical product development, Data Sciences, and/or strategic consulting, with a clear track record of success, is required
  • Experience on Platforms Implementation in required
  • Expertise with machine learning, quantitative methods, predictive modelling and other analytics frameworks and Digital Health techniques is required
  • Expert level experience leading teams focused on developing data architecture, data solutions, machine learning frameworks or tools and deployments is required
  • Strong experience developing robust data governance or policy frameworks
  • Experienced with modern, global data privacy standards and developing scalable solutions
  • People Leadership and managing a team of direct reports in required
  • Knowledge of large biological, chemical and RWD/patient data sets used in R&D and related analytic methods
  • Demonstrated ability of success in influencing and leading, including change implementation, in a large and matrixed organization
  • Passion for innovation and “can do” attitude
  • Proved experience on prioritizing and implementing complicated portfolio investments
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations—project scope may not be clear in initial stages and may need to be created
  • Able to build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace
