The Job
- The Machine Manager is responsible for the programming and machine department personnel and equipment within the Fabrication Division. The Machine Manager is responsible for providing training and direction to personnel, monitoring quality of work, and understanding and performing functions necessary to complete the programming, cutting, and milling of natural and engineered stone
- Schedules and leads daily meetings to introduce and review new project plans, drawings, and schedules to meet timelines
- Reviews timelines and schedules for all stations to plan and meet deadlines for production
- Reviews slab types and overall quality to ensure the processed material will meet the design and quality requirements
- Reviews upcoming projects to ensure the Programmers and Machine Operators have the necessary tools and expertise to meet the Customers’ requirements
- Responsible for reviewing project drawings and layouts to ensure the final product can be programmed, cut, and milled to specifications.
- Handles escalated matters from the Programmers and Machine Operators and be in communication with the Project Coordinator/Operations Manager regarding changes to the schedule and obstacles
- Engages and coordinates directly with the Project Coordinator and Field Manager/Lead Installers to develop processes and organization of information and resources
- Touches base with Operations Manager, Project Engineering, Templating, Field and Fabrication Manager about projects, using the continual feedback model
- Coordinates with the Fabrication Manager to stage countertops requiring rods and miters/build-up
- Reviews the Job Tracker and assigns tasks to the Programmers and Machine Operators in order to maximize output and quality.
- Executes high-level planning to efficiently set up multiple production stages
- Allocates time to Project Coordinator, Fabrication Manager, and Field Manager in order to address current and future challenges
- Ensures all parts are programmed, cut, and milled on-time, properly identified and accounted for so the Fabricators have all the pieces needed for the day
- Communicates with the Project Engineer to execute remakes as necessary and following up on status to help plan for field events
- Performs a QA inspection of each part coming off the saw and milling machines to ensure each part meets dimensional and finish requirements
- Ensures parts are cut and milled to required specifications
- Ensures Fusion and Titan machines are properly maintained
- Ensures the department has a supply of common consumable parts on-hand for the machines
- Becomes familiar with performing repairs on the machines
- Performs weekly shop supplies inventory and order necessary items
- Monitors packing slips are accurate and ensuring receipt of all ordered supplies
- Stocks inventory as necessary
- Supervises and trains Programmers, Machine Operators and Shop Assistant personnel
- Provides assignments and delegates responsibilities to all Programmers, Machine Operators and Shop Assistant
- Directs and/or assists in the performance of tasks when needed, i.e., unusual problems or questions, explaining procedures to new employees, etc.
- Interviews, hires, and manages performance of supervisees as necessary
- Creates and sustains relationships with contractors and clients
- Ensures clients are kept up-to-date on current plans
- The competencies of a successful candidate are: Communication Proficiency, Technical Capacity, Time Management, Quality Focus, Results Driven, and Resource Management
- This position manages the Programmers, Machine Operators and Shop Assistant personnel and is responsible for leadership, performance management and hiring of the employees in the division.
- This job operates in a warehouse and production shop setting, with outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely uses equipment such as Fusion Sawjet, Titan CNC Routers, computers, AlphaCAM, phones, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters, heavy machinery (i.e. forklifts)
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk, use hands to, handle or feel; and reach. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 75 lbs., frequently move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs. and use heavy equipment up to 1,000 lbs
- This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday; 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. with additional hours and schedule changes as needed for business purposes.
- Travel is primarily local, up to 2 hour driving distance during the business day may be expected on a rare basis.
- A high school diploma or equivalent, required
- 5 years of experience in the Stone Industry
- 21 years of age per DOT regulations
- Valid Drivers’ License and clean driving record, able to meet insurability qualifications
