Position Summary

We are a global security organization dedicated to detecting and mitigating security threats using cutting-edge AI/ML technologies. Our team specializes in threat detection, risk management, security automation, and AI-driven security operations. As part of our mission, we continuously explore innovative machine learning and large language models (LLMs) to enhance security defenses and operational workflows.

We’re seeking a full-time, highly motivated Machine Learning Intern (LLM for Security) (Official title: Intern) for our Los Angeles-based corporate office, who will develop and apply custom machine learning (ML) models and large language models (LLMs) for cybersecurity use cases. This is a full-time 8-week internship opportunity starting on June 16, 2025, and ending on August 8, 2025. This role will focus on detecting security threats, automating security operations workflows, and enhancing threat intelligence capabilities using AI/ML techniques.

As an intern, you will collaborate with security engineers, data scientists, and AI researchers to design, prototype, and evaluate ML-driven solutions for improving security defenses. This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate student or advanced undergraduate looking to apply AI/ML research in real-world cybersecurity challenges.

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience developing AI/ML models for real-world security applications, opportunity to collaborate with leading security engineers and AI researchers in the field, exposure to cutting-edge AI techniques for cybersecurity in an enterprise setting, the ability to contribute to innovative security solutions that protect organizations from cyber threats, and a chance to make a meaningful impact on security operations through AI-driven automation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize custom ML models and LLM agents for security threat detection, anomaly detection, and security operations automation.
  • Analyze security data (logs, endpoint events, network traffic, threat intelligence) to identify patterns and train ML models for predictive security insights.
  • Fine-tune and experiment with LLMs to enhance SOC workflows, automated incident response, and security knowledge retrieval.
  • Implement AI-driven automation for security event triage, alert prioritization, and workflow enhancement.
  • Work with security engineers to integrate ML models into existing security tooling and platforms.
  • Research and evaluate state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques, including adversarial ML, self-supervised learning, and generative models for security applications.
  • Present findings, prototype results, and document technical research and implementation details.

Job Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a graduate or advanced undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, Cybersecurity, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong programming skills in Python; experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) is a plus.
  • Prior experience with LLMs (e.g., OpenAI GPT, Llama, Mistral), fine-tuning, and NLP techniques is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including threat detection, incident response, and security analytics.
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured security data, such as logs, network traffic, or SIEM event data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a passion for applying AI to security challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively.
  • High level of personal integrity, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential security matters responsibly.
  • Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS) and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for LLM applications is preferred.
  • Familiarity with adversarial machine learning, anomaly detection, and cyber threat intelligence is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience developing ML-driven security automation workflows (e.g., AI-enhanced SIEM/SOAR) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and identity-based threat detection is preferred.
