Job Description
The Opportunity
The Regional Director of Transportation (RDT) will manage the daily operations for all student
transportation services in Houston. They will manage the regional budget and their direct reports and uphold all contract expectations with the local vendors. The RDT will also coordinate the routing of pupil transportation for regular and special needs programs districtwide to ensure safe, efficient, timely, and economical transportation services. The RDT will also be responsible for the daily tracking of student ridership and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify any trends that could yield further efficient and safer transportation services.

Regional Director of Transportation will:
- Recommendation and Development of Bus Routes
- Develop an optimal number of single and double-tiered bus routes for all eligible students at KIPP Texas Public Schools for General Populations, Special Populations, and McKinney Vento
- Manage all aspects of the transportation routing software, including but not limited to the transfer of annual student information from the organization’s SIS
- Support every Regional Manager of Transportation by analyzing the re-enrollment and registration student data to assess the number of routes required for the school year
- Support all Regional Managers of Transportation to stay within budget by making optimal changes to bus routes throughout the school year
- Logistical and Statistical Data Analysis
- Utilize the transportation routing software to coordinate and review various data (stop creation, student ridership, on-time performance) and transportation requirements of eligible students from various audiences to recommend optimal routes
- Work with School Operations and Regional Managers of Transportation to validate student ridership data
- Analyze various reports, such as on-time performance, student ridership, weekly bus ridership trends, etc.
- Determine the operational feasibility of operating bus routes through comparative analysis of multiple data systems
- Stakeholder Management
- Foster successful business relationships with all vendors and various stakeholders throughout KIPP Texas
- Connect monthly with the transportation routing software support team to stay up to date in new software features and updates
- Provide guidance and explanations on detailed bus runs information and changes due to a range of circumstances to various audiences (schools, vendors, parents, and students)
- Answer routine questions / investigate and resolve basic inquiries concerning bus routing, scheduling, and school boundaries and escalate highly complex inquiries to the Director of Student Transportation.
- Daily Transportation Operations for Houston
- Directly manage all Transportation staff members in Houston
- Facilitate professional development opportunities for the local Transportation team
- Manage their payroll and PTO requests
- Routing scheduling software management skills; knowledge of the principles and practices of pupil transportation planning, scheduling, and route development
- Knowledge of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to pupil transportation
- Skills integrating special education ridership needs
- Exceptional project management skills, with an ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an energetic attitude; ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and quickly build rapport
- Skills and ability in organization, time management, task prioritization, and recordkeeping
- Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Service-oriented, able to adapt to a changing environment while applying flexibility to work under pressure and remaining calm amid competing demands
- Budget management experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Google Drive), with the ability to quickly learn new technologies (Slack, video conferencing apps, etc)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or at least five (5) years of experience in school district transportation operations
- Must have reliable transportation to travel between campuses
- English fluency is required
