Position Overview
The Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of eligibility and the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with identified or suspected special needs; coordinating with related service providers, and monitoring progress toward IEP goals. The incumbent will work in a complex system and respond appropriately to multiple official and unofficial partners, including parents, staff, state and local agencies, schools, and advocacy groups.

Specific Responsibilities Will Include, But Not Be Limited To
- Participate in and/ or lead a variety of interdisciplinary team meetings, including Eligibility, IEP, progress updates/parent-teacher conferences, or administrative planning meetings related to Special Education, as necessary
- Coordinate eligibility and the development of Individualized Education Plans for students with identified or suspected special needs
- Coordinate with related service providers, and monitoring progress toward IEP goals
- Prepare special education reports and collect data required by the State to assure school compliance including the use of state-required Special Education Data System (SEDS)
- Prepare and submit documentation through the SEDS and to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) in a timely and comprehensive manner
- Complete transition assessments, transition plans, and meet with both internal and external stakeholders to implement these plans
- Oversee, implement, and monitor Transition Goals for students with IEPs while training Case Managers to also implement Transitional Services and monitors
- Provide daily updates about the SPED population at Administration meetings
- Lead PDs on SPED and Instructional Differentiation with other members of the Administrative Team
- Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required)
- Master’s degree in a related field (preferred)
- 1+ year’s experience in special education leadership
- Knowledge of special education programs and special education laws and reforms, as they pertain to the District of Columbia
- Experience working with opportunity or justice involved youth (preferred)
- Familiarity with research-based instructional strategies
