Responsibilities

  • Maintains accountability to the Director of Rehabilitation Services and the supervising therapist.
  • Exhibits knowledge of and complies with state regulations.
  • Assists the therapist in the initial evaluation of the patient.
  • Administers modalities as outlined by the therapist.
  • Follows proper sequence of the written plan of care.
  • Monitor the patient’s response to treatment.
  • Report the response and performance to the therapist.
  • Reads the clinical record before starting treatment.
  • Prepare the treatment area and gather supplies in advance.
  • Transport the patient safely to the treatment area.
  • Maintains proper body mechanics when transferring.
  • Makes use of lifts, slides and safety belts.
  • Operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapeutic modalities.
  • Assists patient with proper fit of orthotics and prosthetics.
  • Measures patient for crutches and canes and teaches use.
  • Teaches good exercise technique and use of equipment.
  • Instructs patient and family in home programs.
  • Coordinates treatment time with other departments.
  • Refers questions of prognosis to the therapist.
  • Motivates patient to perform and cooperate.
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with all age groups.
  • Maintains good relationships within the department and with others.
  • Interacts with patient and family in communicating needs and goals.
  • Communicates clearly with physician and faculty staff.
  • Is clear in written and oral communication.
  • Provides timely and accurate information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Makes timely and accurate entries on the daily charge sheet.
  • Has ability to handle a heavy case load.
  • Is flexible yet organized.
  • Practices cost consciousness when suggesting equipment.
  • Participates in hospital improvement teams and committees.

Education

Qualifications

Associates degree from an APTA approved school or college.

Degrees, Licensure And/or Certifications

Has met the requirements of the Arkansas State Physical Therapy Examining Committee for licensure and has current licensure to practice physical therapy in the state of Arkansas.

BLS Certification

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Selects continuing education programs relevant to the department.

Takes responsibility for ongoing learning and professional development.

Utilize NARMC provided education programs

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
