Sr GIS Project Manager

We are urgently seeking a highly experienced Senior GIS Project Manager to oversee two critical projects: the GIS Foundation and Satellite Application projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with ESRI platforms, agile project management, and a proven track record of leading complex GIS projects. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, SI s to ensure successful project delivery and driving strategic initiatives.

• The candidate should have strong technical skills in GIS applications and mapping software, particularly ESRI. This includes experience with GIS database creation, maintenance, and ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

• The candidate should have extensive experience in managing complex GIS projects, including planning, scheduling, tracking timelines, and managing dependencies. They should also possess strong leadership skills to mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors.

• The candidate should be adept at developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance GIS capabilities and project outcomes. They should have exceptional communication skills to provide detailed progress reports, executive summaries, and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
• Develop comprehensive project plans and associated communication documents.
• Identify and manage project dependencies and critical paths.
• Plan, schedule, and track project timelines and milestones using advanced project management tools.
• Develop and deliver detailed progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
• Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
• Lead, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors.
• Ensure projects are completed within the allocated budget and timeline, meeting required quality standards.
• Ensure data accuracy and integrity in all GIS projects.
• Coordinate the creation and maintenance of comprehensive GIS databases.
• Stay updated on the latest developments and technologies in the GIS field to improve project execution and results.
• Collaborate with TRC and attend all project meetings.
• Provide project status updates and maintain financial budget trackers.
• Work with RCM to keep project plans up to date and manage dependencies.
• Ensure health indicators such as budget, scope, and schedule are maintained.
• Report to the steering committee and provide executive summaries.
• Drive strategic initiatives and contribute to the overall vision and direction of GIS projects.
• Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance GIS capabilities and project outcomes.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement within GIS projects and processes.
• Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to align project goals with organizational objectives.
• Lead the integration of GIS solutions with other business systems and processes.
• Advocate for GIS technology and its benefits to senior leadership and external partners.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor s degree in Geography, Computer Science, GIS, or a related field; Master s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in managing IT-based and/or GIS projects.
• Strong technical proficiency in GIS applications and mapping software, particularly ESRI.
• Exceptional interpersonal, written/verbal communication, multi-tasking, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and translate a customer s business goals, objectives, and strategies into technical plans and solutions.
• Self-motivated, creative, team-oriented, and proactive problem solver.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic cross-functional team environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time, with short notice to Springfield, Virginia.
