Financial Accountant
Job Summary
We seek a Financial Accountant to assume responsibility for overseeing the core financial activities of our North American business based in Chicago, Illinois. Reporting to the North American Finance Director, this hands-on role provides an opportunity to join a dynamic and growing business and take the next step in your career development. The role includes responsibility for the management of resources in Navia’s global resource center and the provision of support for the global audit process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance (completeness and accuracy) of the general ledger and other financial records
- Oversight of accounts receivable and accounts payable sub-ledger, and bank disbursement preparation processes
- Manage accounts personnel (located in Navia’s Global Resource Center in Penang, Malaysia), including providing mentoring and guidance to these personnel
- Responsibility for control of the accounts receivable aging profile and implementation of internal escalation processes for overdue balances
- Oversight of the month-end close process, including preparation of end-of-month balance sheet reconciliations
- Support the Finance Director with the preparation of monthly financial statements, including profit or loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements (in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles) for the North American business
- Provide assistance to the Finance Director with the development of necessary policies, procedures, and practices to ensure sound financial management and control of the business
- Provide assistance with the global year-end audit process
- Working in support of the Finance Director in relation to projects and other ad hoc requirements of the North American business

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting
- Sound understanding and experience with fundamental business processes, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and banking
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and other business software
- Knowledgeable in accounting principles and audit processes
- Experience working in a complex ERP environment (CargoWise, SAP, Oracle) will be beneficial
- A well-organized self-starter who is highly detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as both written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and delegate responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner
- Outstanding integrity, solid moral judgment, and the ability to make important decisions under pressure
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This role is located in Schaumburg, Illinois
- The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting while working at a computer and occasional fast-paced operations and events
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and co-workers. Regular use of the telephone, virtual meetings, and e-mail for communication. Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents
- Good manual dexterity for using common office equipment such as computers, calculators, and copiers
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to grasp, handle, or feel and operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad.
