We are seeking a talented Development Engineer to join our clients team in the Metro Detroit area. As a key member of our engineering team, you will collaborate closely with customers’ R&D and manufacturing departments to ensure the successful development and production of body-in-white (BIW) products. This role requires expertise in manufacturing processes, cost management, and engineering design, as well as a strong commitment to meeting customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze customer specifications for BIW products and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance.
Evaluate the feasibility of OEM designs for production within the company’s capabilities and capacities, and develop cost scenarios based on customers’ RFQ requirements.
Design and implement efficient part production processes, including press setup, assembly processes, and tact time determination.
Optimize press tonnage, blank shape, material layout, and yield ratio.
Determine the number of welding jigs required based on production volume and tact time.
Interpret blueprints and manage CAD data (CATIA, NX).
Coordinate design reviews with internal teams to ensure compliance with production capabilities.
Conduct formability simulations and propose corrective actions for areas not meeting production specifications.
Create 3D models that meet both customer and production requirements.
Propose and coordinate design changes to improve Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD).
Participate in trials to verify parts’ compliance with specifications and provide countermeasures for issues.
Track project progress and communicate regular status updates to customers and management.
Support cost reduction initiatives by proposing design improvements.
Collaborate with teams across locations in the North America region, Japan, and Mexico.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Industry Expertise: Background in the automotive manufacturing industry, with a focus on metal stamping and welding processes.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX). Knowledge of 3D modeling software is essential.
Additional Skills:
Strong understanding of quality and continuous improvement processes.
Excellent communication skills for both internal and external collaboration.
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines and project objectives.
Travel Requirements: Approximately 25% travel to manufacturing sites, customer locations, and suppliers.
If you’re a dedicated and driven professional with expertise in engineering, manufacturing, and design processes, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
