Stone Ridge is seeking a Full Time Upper School Fine Arts Teacher to begin in August 2025.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 780 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Upper School Visual Arts Teacher Is Responsible For:

  • teaching fine arts in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
  • possessing strong knowledge of studio drawing and painting, printmaking, and mixed media.
  • teaching Foundations of Studio Art and preparing student artwork for school exhibitions.
  • working closely with colleagues in the Visual Arts Department and throughout the Upper School, and creating and updating plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum.
  • actively collaborates with Learning Strategists, Librarians, Educational Technologists, and the counseling staff to develop strategies to support all students.
  • attends all faculty and employee meetings and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art or Art education
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Familiarity with and/or experience teaching the model of Understanding by Design
  • A collaborative spirit and excellent computer skills
  • Experience in and desire to work in a school that is mission-driven

The ideal candidate has experience in independent and/or Catholic school, has taught high school fine arts and has experience integrating modern media into traditional studio art practices. They will teach 2D art (drawing and paining) and introduce students to concepts of 3D art. In addition, the US Visual Arts Teacher develops, in students, both an appreciation of fine arts and the ability to develop portfolios as they pursue further studies.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art or Art education
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Familiarity with and/or experience teaching the model of Understanding by Design
  • A collaborative spirit and excellent computer skills
  • Experience in and desire to work in a school that is mission-driven

Compensation includes salary commensurate with experience. This position would be compensated based on our salary scale, with the salary range for this position likely falling somewhere between $60,000 and $90,000+, depending on years of experience and level of education.
