Position Summary

Lead, plan, oversee and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for the construction, installation, repair, maintenance, and remodeling of airport facilities. Coordinate activities, personnel, material and equipment necessary to complete assigned construction projects and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours vocational training in construction, carpentry, plumbing, or welding; and

Four (4) years of experience in general building or facility construction.

Additional Requirements

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the criteria set forth by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Successful completion of a security background check conducted by U.S. Customs & Border Protection, if applicable.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Operations, services and activities of a facilities construction program
  • Principles of lead supervision and training
  • Methods and techniques of general construction
  • Methods and techniques of carpentry, welding, fabrication, block laying, brick laying, painting and cement work
  • Operational characteristics of construction equipment and tools
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Lead, organize and review the work of staff in the area of work assigned
  • Independently perform the most difficult rough and finish carpentry, cement-finishing, welding and plumbing tasks
  • Interpret, explain and enforce department policies and procedures
  • Operate a variety of construction equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Perform material and cost estimating for each construction job
  • Read, interpret and follow blueprints and sketches
  • Accurately estimate construction materials and labor required for each project assigned
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
