Position: Medical Coding Manager

Location: Norwood Office

Schedule: Monday through Friday, Hybrid Schedule Flexibility

Responsibilities

The Medical Coding Manager is responsible for all aspects of coding and charge entry within our billing department and supervises a team of 5 to 6 coders and charge entry specialists.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff and daily workflow.
  • Hire and onboard new team members.
  • Answer team member questions, help team members with problems, and oversee team member work for quality and compliance.
  • Conduct team meetings to update members on best practices and continued expectations.
  • Properly coding physician visits/encounters (CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10) based on supportive chart documentation.
  • Review hospital, office, and procedure operative/progress notes and charges for compliance and accuracy.
  • Educate providers on updated payer policies.
  • Monitor provider chart documentation and educate providers on necessary changes.
  • Performing charge entry/data entry into a computerized billing management system.
  • Researching and obtaining necessary documentation/information from provider/office to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely coding and charge entry.
  • Assisting with research for denied claims & appeals; medical coverage policy/medical necessity.
  • Coordinate with other members of the billing department as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Background And Experience

  • 5 years of Certified Coding (CPC) experience preferred
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in physician, specialty, surgical, hospital or pain management setting preferred
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification accredited by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) required
  • CPMA certification strongly preferred
  • Proficient understanding and knowledge of the CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
  • Detailed knowledge of medical & anatomical terminology
  • Detailed knowledge of HIPAA confidentiality & privacy regulations
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
