The Senior Human Resource Generalist will be responsible for supporting the Human Resource function at the Des Plaines facility. The position acts as an advisor and formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a positive and open relationship with plant leadership and employees, supporting the site on all day-to-day HR functional requirements.
  • Work closely with plant leadership on recruiting efforts and candidate sourcing. Lead onboarding process to ensure new employees quickly integrate into the company culture.
  • Assist with the leave management function for all employees, including medical and personal leaves of absence.
  • Support the Human Resources Manager in employee training, development, and performance management.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of ISO standards within the HR department.
  • Support the development and implementation of ISO-related training for HR staff and employees.
  • Maintain employee information in the plant’s HRIS system in preparation of bi-weekly payroll.
  • Responsible for management of employee records. Represent the company regarding unemployment, workers compensation, and EEO, OSHA, ISO, ADA, and FMLA issues.
  • Assist with the administration of employee benefit and wellness programs.
  • Partner with the greater HR Team to optimize and integrate HR technology, enabling managers and employees to easily perform people-related transactions, facilitates delivery of effective HR services, securely stores employee data, and supports people-related decisions.
  • Maintain current knowledge and application of all relevant laws and regulations at the local, state and national level relating to employment and ensure organizational compliance. This includes educating and advising managers and senior leaders on HR-related legal and regulatory matters and ensuring HR programs, practices, and policies are aligned.
  • Mitigate legal risk to the organization through proactive training and education, clear systems and processes for managing conflicts with and between employees, handling and investigating complaints of harassment/discrimination and other unjust practice allegations.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal and professional networks, and visiting benchmarking organizations. Support and lead individual and organizational continuous learning culture and process.
  • Active member of the Employee Engagement Committee, driving initiatives to improve employee morale and community involvement.
  • Active role in the plant’s safety program. Responsible for maintaining the site’s OSHA log and the plant’s Worker’s Compensation case management.

Secondary Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite office locations as needed.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

  • Support the company’s vital few metrics including customer satisfaction, financial performance, and operational excellence.
  • Ability to have work completed accurately and on time.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Regular attendance is expected and required. Occasional early morning, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related major is required; SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and/or PHR/SPHR designations are preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of HR experience in a plant manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lead process improvement teams.
  • Must be a “hands on” professional with proven experience in employee relations, leadership development, training, performance management, compliance, communications, staffing, compensation, and benefit administration.

SKILLS (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning, Other)

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Effective communicator with all levels of the organization. Proven ability to mentor, motivate and persuade others.
