Art of Problem Solving (AOPS) is seeking a skilled comic artist to create original artwork for our line of Beast Academy educational comic books.
Our elementary curriculum, Beast Academy, includes educational comics, practice books, and an online platform.The existing 40-book math series (with millions of books sold!) revolves around four little monsters who attend Beast Academy and chronicles their adventures in learning math from the academy’s eccentric cast of teachers. We are now expanding the Beast Academy curriculum into science and are looking for artists to create educational science comic books. The Comic Artist Will
This is a potentially full-time or part-time, possibly contract position based at our headquarters in San Diego, CA. The full salary range for this position is 65K-75K with a 4% year-end bonus. Here are some things you can look forward to:

Since 2003, we have trained hundreds of thousands of the country’s top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. The Comic Artist Will
- Translate script and story ideas into visually compelling narratives, incorporating feedback from authors throughout the process.
- Produce digitally-inked comic pages, working closely with the in-house colorist to create the final art.
- Ensure that all art adheres to existing character designs and style guides.
- Complete other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
- A strong kid-lit portfolio that showcases your long-form sequential storytelling skills and ability to draw characters in a variety of poses and actions while staying on-model.
- Excellent drawing skills with the ability to adapt to the Beast Academy style and draw all Beast Academy characters.
- Proficiency with digital art tools, ideally including Clip Studio.
- Ability to take direction and work both collaboratively and independently.
- Ability to design new characters is a plus.
