
Assistant Inspector General for Management
The incumbent oversees a wide range of administrative and technical functions and tasks that require vision, advanced leadership skills, communication, and the integration of office activities to support senior leaders. They leverage expertise and vast institutional knowledge to anticipate and frame ambiguous issues, assess risks, devise solutions, and keep management apprised of high priority issues and requirements. They prioritize mission requirements and work assignments, provide guidance, direct work, and advise decision makers. They provide direction for communicating the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) mission and program responsibilities within and external to the agency. The primary purpose of the position is to provide leadership, direction, and coordination in all functional areas of the OIG, including human capital, financial management, contracting, and information technology.
The incumbent directly supervises Office of Management staff; assesses workload and resource needs; and identifies and presents resource requirements needed to carry out Assistant Inspector General for Management (AIGM) functions. The incumbent provides guidance and instruction to facilitate problem solving and to ensure that AIGM tasks are effectively accomplished. The incumbent will define jobs, select employees, and assign work; defines technical work requirements and milestones; evaluates the organization and employee accomplishments by accepting or rejecting work products; and presents and defends organization and employees work to senior management and other offices. Recommends employee promotions and recognition; approves leave; implements performance modifications and takes corrective actions as appropriate. The incumbent oversees a wide range of management, administrative, and operational processes in connection with the daily operations of the OIG, including budgeting, contracting, and human resource-related processes. Relevant assignments are complex, diverse, and often of a non-recurring nature. The work requires subject matter expertise, analytical and financial assessment, and management skills. The incumbent has delegated authority to manage the full range of activities, ensuring all administrative and operations assignments are carried out in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and OIG policies.
The incumbent serves as OIG’s subject matter expert and provides authoritative technical/program advice related to OIG’s administrative and operational processes. Provides advice and assistance on matters of a critical, controversial, and confidential nature. Counsels and assists the IG in addressing organizational challenges and internal issues and recommends solutions or corrective actions. Exercises professional judgment and considerable discretion in advice and counsel to the IG and senior OIG staff on positions and courses of action. Handles other confidential assignments as required by the IG.
