What To Expect
Tesla is commissioning the largest cathode active materials manufacturing plant in North America while simultaneously developing next generation materials to power a future of sustainable abundance for all. Critical to the success of this mission is the development of data infrastructure and materials science characterization techniques that accelerate our R&D to production pipeline.

As a data engineer supporting this team, you’ll have the chance to build and deploy exciting applications, ranging from Laboratory Information Management Systems, Material Execution Systems, Computer vision problems, and many more. You will join as a foundational member of the team to build the prototype applications, develop the data infrastructure and identify and build products that eliminate blind spots in analysis. Your understanding of engineering fundamentals (materials science, reliability engineering, industrial engineering, etc) will make you a key voice in determining the appropriate parameters to track and optimize during experimental planning and execution.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain data pipelines to synthesize data streams from across multiple analysis scales (lab, pilot, production) to build comprehensive data sets that enable meaningful scaleup comparisons and tracking of material history through the materials to cell circuit
  • Design and build meaningful visualizations to allow for efficient and reliable production monitoring
  • Implement statistical and machine learning models which detect process anomalies
  • Develop data exploration tools for visualizing and statistically comparing metrics across groups to improve process performance

  • What You'll Bring

  • Degree with 2+ years of data analysis or relevant experience in chemical engineering, materials science, computer science, physics, statistics, or equivalent quantitative discipline. Senior roles available for more experienced candidates
  • Hands on experience with databases (MySQL, MongoDB, etc.) and the scientific Python stack (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, etc)
  • Experience building efficient data pipelines that leverage stream/batch-processing platforms (e.g. Kafka, Airflow), and APIs (e.g. FastAPI, GraphQL), -Experience with Git or other source control software -Strong verbal and written communication skills to quickly translate needs into data analysis problems and effectively communicate learnings
