Senior Open-Source Database Administrator
We are seeking a skilled Senior Open-Source Database Administrator to lead the deployment, management, and optimization of open-source database platforms, with a focus on PostgreSQL and MySQL, and additional expertise in MongoDB and MariaDB.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of open-source databases to ensure availability, performance, and reliability.
Manage cloud-hosted database environments (OCI, AWS, Azure) and oversee migrations from on-premises to cloud or across cloud platforms.
Identify and resolve performance issues, optimize SQL queries, and maintain database efficiency.
Implement robust security measures including encryption and access controls to protect sensitive data.
Design and maintain comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align database solutions with organizational needs.
Automate database operations using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Bash, or Python.
Maintain up-to-date documentation for database systems, processes, and best practices.
Experience;
You have extensive experience managing PostgreSQL and MySQL environments in both on-prem and cloud-based infrastructures like AWS, OCI, and Azure. You're driven by performance, scalability, and data security, and you're confident supporting critical systems at the enterprise level.
Requirements;
8+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration; 3+ years working with MySQL, MongoDB, or MariaDB.
Deep PostgreSQL expertise, particularly in enterprise and AWS-hosted environments.
3+ years of experience managing databases in cloud environments (AWS, OCI, Azure).
Strong background in Linux systems administration.
Advanced skills in query tuning, index optimization, and overall SQL performance enhancement.
Experience with high-availability solutions, replication, and clustering.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Proven ability to support mission-critical systems, including on-call rotations.
Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and CI/CD pipelines related to database workflows.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions.
Willingness to work shift schedules and provide on-call support as needed.
A plus if you have this experience;
Hands-on experience with BI tools, ETL platforms, or data warehouses such as Qlik, Redshift, Snowflake, or Databricks.
Experience automating database operations with Ansible, Terraform, or Kubernetes.
Certifications in AWS, OCI, Azure, or relevant database technologies.
Experience migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL.
