Investigative Intern
- Internship, onsite
- NTSH Technologies
- Atlanta, United States of America
North_Korea.exe is the newsletter arm of NTSH (Nothing To See Here), a software and security startup working to undermine authoritarian control and expand human freedom through technology.
This newsletter is not an academic journal. It’s raw, tactical, and underground—shedding light on how technology is used in, by, and for North Korea. We expose hype, investigate forgotten stories, and confront uncomfortable truths.
Position Summary
We’re looking for a sharp, curious, and driven journalist Intern to help develop and publish stories for North_Korea.exe. You’ll help dig into overlooked narratives, verify facts, and craft stories that matter. You’ll collaborate closely with the editor (a technologist with subject-matter insight), but you’ll also have space to pitch your own ideas, sign your name to stories, and grow your voice in this space.
If you care about technology, truth, and the people of North Korea—and you’re frustrated by lazy or sensationalist reporting—this role is for you.
Responsibilities- Research background and developments on tech-related North Korea stories (both inside and outside the country).
- Assist in investigating leads—such as the "Ukrainian hotline" or online spaces sympathetic to the regime.
- Review academic, journalistic, and OSINT sources to find discrepancies, contradictions, or overlooked truths.
- Help organize scattered notes, quotes, and sources into coherent narrative outlines.
- Draft and revise pieces in collaboration with the editor (expect co-authorship).
- Interview sources or help coordinate interviews with defectors, experts, or activists.
- Monitor Reddit, Telegram, and other platforms for useful signals or disinformation.
- Occasionally write solo pieces or short takes for the newsletter.
- Strong interest in investigative journalism, North Korea, information warfare, or tech for human rights.
- Solid writing and editing skills (journalism experience not required, but welcome).
- Comfortable using tools like Google Docs, Signal, Reddit, archive.org, and basic spreadsheets.
- Bonus if familiar with OSINT methods or language skills (Korean, Russian, or Chinese).
- Self-motivated, independent thinker. You don’t wait for permission to go deeper.
- Respect for anonymity, sensitive information, and operating in “grey zones” of research.
What You’ll Get
- Mentorship from a mission-driven technologist/editor with 10+ years of software and North Korea-focused work.
- Your name on real stories and a chance to build a portfolio.
- Access to insider networks and meaningful impact in a space most writers ignore.
- A chance to help shape a growing platform with edge and purpose.
To Apply:
Send us a brief paragraph on why this newsletter matters to you, along with 1-2 writing samples (can be blog posts, essays, or research briefs). If you’ve ever gone down an internet rabbit hole for a story no one else was covering, tell us about it.
