
Health Technician (Patient Advocate)
- Assures and Advocates for Patients
- Provides information and interpretation of treatment plans and techniques to be used.
- Responds to potential guest dissatisfaction
- Assists in interpreting procedural matters for patients such as operative permits, transportation permits or for transfer
- Determines an appropriate course of action to provide optimum service when patient presents with issues and problems
- Initiates and implements a centralized and consistent outpatient grievance mechanism
- Participate in Navajo Interpreters Program with cleared defined role and responsibility

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One (1) year of Specialized experience that equipped with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service as described in the vacancy announcement.
Specialized Experience:Have data entry and retrieval, maintaining database, records keeping, creating reports, and communicating effectively; obtaining health information, recording health information into Electronic Health Records.
OR
Education and Training: For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
GS-06: One (1) year of Specialized experience that equipped with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service as described in the vacancy announcement
Specialized Experience:Have compiling statistical data, extracting data, utilization of electronic health records to generate reports; knowledge of health care standards, such as regulatory requirements, policies and procedures.
GS-07: One (1) year of Specialized experience that equipped with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience: Have ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in stressful situation, application of medical terminology to interpret treatment plans; knowledge of healthcare theories; knowledge of patient conditions.
OR
Education and Training: For GS-07: Successfully completed 1 year (18 Semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position.
NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above the GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Must have the ability to communicate fluently in the Navajo language.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
