Position Summary

The Dispensing Coordinator is responsible for the proper and timely processing of new prescriptions and refills for patients. Communication with staff in all departments is paramount in this position, ensuring that the prescription dispensing needs of all departments are met effectively and efficiently.

What you will be doing

  • Obtain customer and prescription information needed to process new prescriptions and refills
  • Verify patient information, prescriber information, drug selection and insurance benefits
  • Complete insurance prior authorizations and appeals
  • Apply for copay financial assistance when indicated
  • Maintain inventory by reviewing orders, returns, and restocking as needed
  • Maintain customer and patient confidentiality according to HIPAA standards
  • Process cash, check and credit card transactions
  • May be required to complete patient reminder phone calls, data mining (review of medical records), and administer patient surveys
  • Act as the hub between navigators, providers and clinic staff with regards to the status of patient medication fills and ensure timely notification if changes to fill date or appointment times are required


What you will bring to the team

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required
  • 2+ years of previous Pharmacy Technician experience strongly preferred
  • Valid California Pharmacy Technician Certification required
  • Valid and current California driver’s license and proof of insurance required
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws that apply to the duties of this position
  • Knowledge of guidelines concerning dispensing medication
  • Knowledge of brand and generic drug names
  • In-office dispensing experience preferred
  • Experience applying for copay financial assistance when indicated
