Gettysburg College seeks a dynamic and motivated individual for a newly-created, 12-month, full-time position as Assistant Director of Events and Engagement at the Eisenhower Institute (EI). The Institute is a co-curricular public policy program that connects aspiring young leaders with public policy experts to discover their passion and tackle society’s most challenging issues. EI is nonpartisan, inspired by President Eisenhower’s approach of engaging diverse people and ideas to find common ground and take action.
The Eisenhower Institute is interested in candidates who are passionate about preparing the next generation of thoughtful, creative, principled leaders, and have demonstrated a commitment to building dynamic interactive experiences in an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community.
The Assistant Director of Events and Engagement oversees informative events that advance our mission by engaging target audiences in thoughtful discussion on important policy issues. This individual is primarily responsible for planning and executing campus and community events in Gettysburg, assisting with events in Washington, and managing communications to cultivate a community of students, faculty, staff, community members and members of the general public interested in the Institute’s mission and work.
Primary Responsibilities Include
Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is consistently recognized nationally and ranks among the top colleges nationally for our value, programs, and liberal arts experience. Enrolling 2,400 undergraduate students from over 40 states and nearly 40 countries, Gettysburg College is known for its rigorous liberal arts and sciences education with a student experience that intentionally integrates learning that occurs inside and outside of the classroom.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated track record of planning large and complex events; an interest in and understanding of public policy and current events; experience working with high profile speakers and media; demonstrated success cultivating and growing audiences; strong communication skills with a flair for crisp writing adjusted to attract target audiences; a team-based work ethic focused on excellence; a commitment to meeting deadlines and completing assignments on budget; and an ownership mindset and innovative approach to their work. Experience working in higher education is helpful.

- Plan and execute annual and periodic Institute events including White House Fellows orientation, Democracy Week, Eisenhower’s Birthday, Campus Policy Debate, Blavatt Lecture, Eisenhower Leadership Conference, Scharf Lecture, and Lunch and Learn series, while managing logistics, budgets, and expenses
- Coordinate campus partnerships and Institute participation in college-wide events such as Family Weekend, Get Acquainted Day, film festivals, and other student and Admissions activities to maximize engagement and visibility
- Manage student events and communications teams, including oversight of podcast production, blog editing, web content, newsletters, and distribution lists
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for event assessment, audience growth, and stakeholder engagement through tracking speakers and attendance metrics for various target populations
- Working with DC staff to support events in the nation’s capital, including coordinating transportation from campus, promoting DC events on campus and occasionally traveling to Washington for on-site event support.
- Supporting the Executive Director to write grants, source speakers and develop an annual events budget.
