Tesla's Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of building first-of-a-kind exterior finishing/coating processes which allow us to produce amazing vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate in a safe and ergonomic environment. The coatings team is seeking an Engineering Technician for process and application equipment that will focus on equipment development to support new and unique manufacturing machines. You will support the development of technically complex applications and equipment to deliver quality and efficient production yield. The candidate will work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendors, and technology partners on application and equipment development from concept to production. This role requires a thorough understanding of manufacturing equipment fundamentals and substantial skills with mechanical, electrical, and controls installation. It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using first principles analysis and exercise aggressive process optimization.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to develop, optimize, and validate equipment performance
- Support the installation (mechanical, electrical, and controls) and commissioning of production and pilot equipment, including project timeline, risk identification, project status reporting & oversight of installation and commissioning of new manufacturing lines
- Operate pilot equipment to assess capabilities, identify shortcomings, and provide feedback for equipment design enhancement
- Assist in process equipment support for spray booths, ovens, pretreatment and washer systems, film lamination, injection molding, etc.
- Assist in application equipment support for powder coating, painting, sealing, laser trimming, laser ablation, surface finishing, paint film lamination, laser curing etc.
- Support process qualification for coating processes including development of acceptance testing criteria and verifying requirements using statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC and Cp/Cpk)
- Support product launch and process validation for installation and commissioning of new manufacturing lines, execute qualification protocols/activities
Requirements
- 5+ years related experience in a technology-based industry, where automated techniques are utilized in the finishing/coating of consumer products
- Experience working with or developing functional/aesthetic coating processes, including automotive paint & powder coating
- Experience in installing, commissioning & maintenance of process equipment's, automation systems such as pretreatment, E-coat, wet and dry spray booth, air handling units, etc with intensive process knowledge
- Experience with installing and commissioning application equipments, automation systems & conveyor systems for any applications such as powder coating, painting, sealing, paint film lamination, material handling etc.
- Experience in using any CAD modeling software's like Catia, SolidWorks, Inventor, ProE, AutoCAD, Autodesk, Ansys etc.
- Experience in designing mechanical equipment, fixtures & tooling in CAD, reading & interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, Automation industry standards, safety standards, development & deployment of PFMEAs
- Experience with MS Office suite, Confluence, Jira, Siemens, Allen Bradley PLC languages, HMI and SCADA is desired
