Summary Overview

Founded in 2002, Redpoint is a small, privately owned, boutique PR & marketing agency that serves clients in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. We have a team of around 15 employees and our clients are pretty high-profile, such as Tourism Nova Scotia, Perillo Tours, and the iconic Woodstock Inn & Resort in Vermont. So the work we do is both challenging and satisfying.

We’re seeking a warm, kind, and efficient HR & Operations Manager to oversee our people, culture, and operational needs. This role is best suited to a generalist who enjoys taking care of people and solving all kinds of problems. The job has a wide variety of responsibilities that range from insurance renewals and benefits/perks management to team party planning, career journey management, oversight of professional development programs, and everything in between.

Over the course of our 23 years in business, we’ve developed a culture where back-biting, infighting, and office politics do not belong. Rather, people at Redpoint feel supported, appreciated, respected, and heard…by each other and by the owners. The person in this role must get joy from maintaining that culture and continuing to help foster it. If what you’ve heard so far sounds like a good match for your personality and skill set, please read on to learn more.

Some helpful quick facts about the role:

  • Though the position (and our company) is fully remote, you should be based within reasonable commuting distance from NYC. We have an office there, and you’re welcome to work from the office whenever you want.
  • You should have enough experience under your belt to independently oversee your responsibilities with confidence and be a resource to the entire staff for administrative issues. Ideally, you come into this role as a seasoned professional who’s experienced many years of helping manage an office environment.
  • Once you’ve been on board long enough to get to know Redpoint and feel comfortable in your role, you’ll be fully empowered with the independence to shape initiatives as you see fit.
  • Business hours are from 9am - 5:30pm with flexibility during the day and a culture that supports work/life balance.
  • You don’t have to be a tech wizard, but you can’t fear technology in this role. If you’re afraid to use Excel because you might mess up the cells, or you typically resist learning new programs and platforms…this isn’t the role for you.

Your Role at Redpoint

As we are an agency that serves clients, most of the staff at Redpoint are busy taking care of them. Your role is to take care of Redpoint…our people and our operation. You keep things humming smoothly and help us ensure that Redpointers are happy and satisfied.

To succeed in this role, you don’t need to be a deep specialist in HR or Operations, though experience in either or both of those areas would be helpful. You should have common sense, good intuition about people, and naturally align with our core values: Joy, Thoughtfulness, Accountability, Learning, and Creativity. Indeed, as you will be responsible for helping Redpoint stay aligned with those values, it’s essential that you embrace them yourself.

Above all, you should 1) be a resourceful problem solver, and 2) get joy out of bringing joy to others. We’ve always been creative and innovative in the way we treat our people, and you’ll need to carry on that tradition. For example, when we saw that our team’s spirit for learning and innovation was getting crushed during the pandemic, we introduced the Professional Development Retreat (PDR) Program. That allows people to take one or two days off, up to four times per year, to enjoy their own relaxed, personal learning/inspiration retreat based on their own needs. Through this program, Redpointers have read books, taken classes/webinars, gone to museums, explored their city, and much more. You’re required to fully disconnect from the office on PDR days, and you get a budget to have some fun. It’s a wildly successful and much loved benefit at Redpoint.

So, that sort of innovative problem solving would be part of your role. As you see issues that are impacting our people and operation – whether efficiency, morale, resources, skill development, or really anything – it’s your job to suggest ways to address them. You’ll have full support from the owners, who are willing to invest budget for smart ideas.

If you come from large organizations where there’s a lot of frustrating red tape and you have to compromise your vision in order to get things approved, you’ll appreciate Redpoint. Day to day, you’ll work closely with one of Redpoint’s owners, and you’ll be able to see/feel the immediate positive impact of your efforts here.

Overall, the role will offer you the flexibility to use both sides of your brain. There’s a healthy blend of both quick checkbox tasks and meaty challenges that require deep thinking and long runways.

Major Activities – Highlights of the Job

Please note: as we are a very small company, the activities you see here don’t require consistent, equal time. Rather, responsibilities ebb and flow based on the need. Some might take 5 hours per year, others might take 5 hours per week. So while it may look like a lot, it’s actually quite manageable.

HR/Community/Culture

  • Hiring/Onboarding: oversee the soup-to-nuts hiring process.
  • Career Journey Management: facilitate our CDA (Career Development Assessment) process. We do full formal CDA evals at each annual employee anniversary and a 6-month progress check-in on goals.
  • Employee Termination: whether voluntary or involuntary, facilitate the offboarding process.
  • Professional Development Program Management: we have a robust program for the staff and you’ll oversee that logistics chessboard.
  • Benefits/Perks Oversight: with our admin coordinator, oversee our benefits/perks program needs like PTO, wellness stipend, etc.
  • Community Policy Oversight: ensure policies/handbook are up to date, communicated, and followed.
  • Insurance/401K Oversight: we work with a great agency who handles the nitty gritty of our insurance benefits (medical, life/ADD, short-term and long-term disability) and our 401k plan. You’ll liaise with them and keep timelines accountable.
  • Redpoint Events: planning fun meetups, experiential outings, guest speakers, and more.
  • Culture Monitor: we are a joyful, thoughtful, and small community and keeping this ecosystem balanced means being aware of the collective “mood” and finding ways to maintain an even keel. You’ll observe, listen, and help us keep things on track.
  • Proactively Explore/Implement: things that will cultivate Redpoint’s culture, community, and individual staffers…stuff that supports our values, makes people happy, helps productivity, and increases community satisfaction. VERY wide latitude here.

Operations

  • Client Contracts: facilitate admin portion of client onboarding, as well as monitor for and facilitate renewal paperwork.
  • Time Tracking Reports: with our admin coordinator, oversee the monthly and annual time vs. budget reporting process.
  • Oversee Bookkeeping Agency: be the point person for approving biweekly vendor payment runs, client invoicing schedule, and other financial needs. They are a full team of three, so they really handle almost all of our day to day financial tasks.
  • Administrative Liaison: be the point person for our IT company, WeWork office rental, and business insurance broker.
  • Proactively Explore/Implement: things that will make Redpoint’s operation better, smoother, more efficient/effective.

Redpoint Benefits - Highlights

  • Total Compensation Program that includes opportunities for bonuses/commission for all staff.
  • 401k matching program.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance – two plan options with Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield (we pay most of the premium, you kick in a small stipend depending on which plan you choose).
  • Employer paid life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program, which provides services for counseling, legal/financial assistance, care giving assistance, employee discounts and more.
  • Annual Wellness Stipend, which can be used for anything from dental bills and yoga classes to financial counseling, purchasing fitness equipment, pet insurance and much more.
  • Generous PTO program, which includes a boat load of paid holidays (including Summer Fridays – and some Winter Fridays, just for fun! – and office closure with full pay the week between Christmas and New Years Day) and a mandatory Rejuvenation Leave every five years of your tenure, which is four consecutive weeks off – fully paid – on top of your regular PTO.
  • Growth & Development Program, which shepherds you through a variety of different learning experiences annually. This program includes a series of tailored Professional Development Retreats, a Relationship Building Program, and an annual personalized training budget to support classes, conference attendance and other learning opportunities relevant to your career development.
  • Annual Career Development Assessment (CDA) program to help guide your goals and growth.
  • Comprehensive New Child Caregiver Leave.
  • Sensible and thoughtful Bereavement Leave.
  • Redpoint Social Occasions – hosted virtual/in-person outings arranged exclusively for Redpoint.
  • Travel perks! We’re fortunate to receive friends & family discounts in many travel destinations where we have clients.

How to Apply

Yes, we know cover letters are considered a drag these days but we’re big fans. We are, after all, in the communications business and a letter helps us get to know you. So, please send your resume and a letter telling us why you’d be a good fit for this job, based on everything you’ve read in this job posting. Email them to [email protected]. We’ll teach you the tools you need for the job, but if you have experience/expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Microsoft Teams, Zoom, any Adobe tools, SurveyMonkey, Employee Navigator, Quickbooks, or Harvest, please call that out in your application!
