YSI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Azure SQL Database Administrator to support our program at Fort Belvoir, VA. This role requires an onsite professional with strong technical expertise to provide second-tier support for a variety of IT systems, applications, and hardware.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage Azure SQL Databases in a PaaS environment, ensuring high performance, scalability, security, and availability.
- Support Azure App services by ensuring seamless database connectivity, optimal query performance, and secure integration between application and data layers.
- Collaborate with application development and DevOps teams to troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and connectivity issues across Azure SQL and App Services.
- Implement database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies tailored for cloud-hosted applications.
- Manage automated backup, restore, and high availability solutions using features such as geo-replication, point-in-time restore.
- Use Azure-native monitoring and diagnostics tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics) to proactively detect and resolve issues in databases and app services.
- Automate routine database maintenance and deployments using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates/Bicep, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
- Enforce security best practices across Azure SQL and Azure App Services using RBAC, TDE, Private Endpoints, and integration with the Azure Key Vault.
- Guide development teams on cloud database best practices including schema design, connection management, and scaling strategies.
- Stay current on Azure feature releases, DISA STIG updates, and emerging security best practices to continuously refine the organizations PaaS security posture.
- Participate in capacity planning, cost optimization, and governance for both database and App Service resources in Azure.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Active Secret Clearance required.
- 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
- Windows system Administration experience
- Expertise in SQL Server 2016 or newer (2019/2022 preferred).
- Strong command of T-SQL and experience in writing optimized queries and procedures.
- Proficiency in backup and recovery strategies (native and third-party tools).
- Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS), and Management Studio (SSMS).
