
MAINTENANCE WORKER
Performs minor construction and repair on existing structures involving standard measurements, specifications, instructions, and basic shop mathematics. Following general information, locates and independently makes repairs to plumbing that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of the utility. Performs routine electrical repairs, such as replacing circuits, fuses, light switches, outlets, and light bulbs. Prepares surfaces, mixes and prepares coating materials, and applies coating materials for general painting or wallpaper projects. Refers difficult carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting issues that require a journeyman craftsman to a higher graded crafts and trades mechanic or arranges for the work to be performed by a contractor. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Performs such duties as picking up trash and paper from grounds, raking leaves or grass, pulling weeds, watering and trimming grass, spreading abrasives and/or chemicals on icy surfaces, washing motor vehicles (by hand), and cleaning hand tools after use.

Qualifying Experience:
Skill to apply basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or painting methods and techniques, and basic shop mathematics and
knowledge of material strengths and applications to construct, install, repair, or modify building structures and/or subsystems.
Knowledge of standard safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to perform basic research and apply regulations,
procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation. Skill to operate and maintain hand and power tools and
equipment. Ability to read and interpret instructions and work from sketches, work orders, and basic blueprints. Skill to plan and
layout work according to instructions and skill in measuring, constructing, and installing materials. Ability to operate snow clearing
equipment and attachments to adjust attachments, blades, and auxiliary equipment. Must be physically able to frequently lift and
carry object weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to obtain
and maintain a favorable National Agency Check with Investigations (NACI). Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Must
have a valid state driver's license to operate light motor vehicles. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject
to random testing for drug use.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
