
Recreation Assistant (Swim Instructor)
Provides group and/or private swimming lessons and instruction to adults and children. Effectively communicates student progress verbally and/or in writing. Fosters student success by providing positive, timely, and corrective feedback. Instructs patrons on rules and procedures for safe swimming. Works in a swimming pool environment where they may be required to perform as a lifeguard when not actively teaching, or during their assigned classes when the instructor to student ratio does not exceed 1:1. As necessary works as a lifeguard to perform patron surveillance, inspect pools for safe conditions and other duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming pool to include cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, and pool decks. May be required to instruct lifeguarding/first aid/CPR/AED courses as necessary.
Ensures the safe operation of the pool, it's filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water testing.

- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Individual must have or receive the Red Cross Certified as a WSI (Water Safety instructor) certification prior to or within the first 30 days of employment
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC).
- Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
- Must have an approved and current certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR training. Individual must have or receive this certification prior to or within the first 30 days of job.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification for the type of activity and skill levels they are instructing, e.g., swimming, aquatic exercise. Individual must have or receive this certification prior to or within the first 60 days of employment. Must be nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training is desirable. Individual must have or receive this certification prior to or within the first 30 days of employment. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of instructional and developmental teaching methods, swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, and state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lessons or instruction to children. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and carry them out. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC) and Installation Records Check (IRC). Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
Education
