Rothe is seeking a Multimedia Repository Intern to provide a broad range of imagery preservation-related support to the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). Job Description:

Rothe is hiring a Multimedia Repository Intern to support the Format Migration Project. The NASA Johnson Space Center’s Moving Imagery Repository has over 50,000 video tapes and LTO data tapes that need to be converted to digital files and migrated onto a spinning disk object storage platform. Descriptive metadata from 3 different websites/databases and multiple spreadsheets must be consolidated to ensure the most accurate metadata is attached to the records which will eventually be accessioned to the National Archives.

This internship opportunity is at Johnson Space Center (JSC) and will work on-site in Building 8, Room 218.

Duties:

  • Compile and consolidate descriptive metadata from various spreadsheets and databases into a master spreadsheet in preparation for upload to the Media Asset management System (MAMS), Dalet.
  • Pull LTO data tapes according to batch lists and help transport them as needed to other buildings.
  • Reshelve LTO data tapes.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of video records and associated metadata.


Onsite position; the intern bears travel costs to nearest NASA Center for badging and issue of NASA IT equipment.

Education and Work Requirements:

  • For a College Summer Intern for three months NTE 480 hours:
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Library Science, Library Information Science, or History, or a related field.


Experience:

Knowledge and comfort with Excel and other Microsoft tools such as Outlook & Teams is a must as well as the ability to work solo much of the time and be a self-starter. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and a willingness to ask questions are all necessary for success in this project.

Skills:

  • Possess working knowledge of Windows/PC platform.
  • Knowledge of MS Office.
  • Ability to use Adobe Acrobat and its functions.
  • Understand PDF file formats.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must be extremely detail oriented.
  • Ability to work with little supervision in a team environment.
  • Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment.


Minimum Requirements:

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), SharePoint, and Box.
