  • Responsible for conducting both internal and external patrols of the hospital, parking lots/garages, and grounds.
  • Execute access control when required by verifying personally identifiable information and authorizations.
  • Ensure incident scenes are preserved for law enforcement investigators and provides written reports of findings based on criminal incidents to the supervisor.
  • Prepare written reports on all incidents and investigations as required and must be willing to use case documents and/or testify during judicial proceedings as a witness or security professional.
  • Act as first responder for all emergency situations, including infant abduction, kidnappings, and violent criminal violations in progress.
  • Inspects possessions of those entering or leaving areas and identifies and confiscates contraband when discovered at higher security posture levels.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires moderate to heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a favorable result from a Criminal History Background Check (CHBC).
  • May require the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis which may include weekends/holidays.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. The shifts are: 0000 - 0800; 0800-1600; and 1600 - 2400
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires successful graduation from a USAMPS-accredited academy; and Field Training Program (FTP) within 6 months of employment.
  • This position requires successful completion of semiannual weapons qualification testing within 6 months of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license while holding this position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain and Individual Reliability Program (IRP) certification within 6 months of employment.

Basic Requirement:

Experience: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) providing armed guard services for the protection of life (employees, visitors, patients, etc.); 2) maintaining an activity report to document shift activity; and 3) performing access control ensuring physical security of facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
