
Fitness Specialist (Fitness Program Manager)

Works under the general supervision of the Fitness and Sports Manager (FASM) to plan, organize, equip and manage a comprehensive fitness program for Patrick SFB and Cape Canaveral AFS including and not limited to group exercise and fitness improvement classes, incentive programs, special events, and equipment and exercise program orientations, IAW DAFI34-114 and other relevant DoD and local guidance. Develops continuity binders to maintain records of required documentation. Provides interactive supervision of programs as needed or directed. Monitors participant eligibility. Develops an annual strategic plan and robust activity calendar. Works with FSS Marketing to aggressively publicize all components of the fitness program in various media outlets for maximum awareness and participation, secure promotional sponsorship and advertising, and conduct ongoing surveillance of the eligible customer population to assess the program demand and effectiveness and customer satisfaction. Works with the Community Services Flight and Youth Center to conduct relevant joint programs and activities that can be offered through the R4R and Unite programs. Actively supports and participates in basewide events. Provides customer service and proficiency training to the recreation assistants and ensures mandated certifications are maintained. Performs facility manager duties to include weekly inspections of group exercise areas, submitting and tracking work orders until discrepancies are corrected, and monitoring repair and improvement projects. Performs weekly inspections of group exercise equipment, documents and reports issues to management. Manages group exercise, personal trainer and massage contracts to ensure statements of work, quality and safety of services, and customer satisfaction are maintained. Recruits qualified NAF contract personnel and prepares required documents. Manages and accounts for the group exercise equipment inventory. Provides budget inputs to the FASM for APF and NAF annual operations and maintenance and unfunded requirements, and prepares project and purchase documents as directed. Assists in setting up facilities and equipment for all fitness programs and special functions at both fitness centers. May serve as the manager in charge in the absence of both activity managers. May perform lifeguarding, group exercise instruction and conduct certification classes when appropriately certified. Performs customer service desk attendant duties when directed and/or scheduled and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience that provided a working familiarity in fitness program administration and community event coordination. A 4-year degree in a fitness, exercise science or related field, or equivalent length of specialized work experience is desired. Must possess American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/AED/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogen/Biohazard Spill certifications or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire. Competent experience with Microsoft Office software is desired. Work requires frequent physical exertion, and the incumbent must be able to frequently walk, bend, stoop and lift objects up to 50 pounds unassisted and successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam. Must be able read, write and speak English fluently and communicate effectively with patrons and coworkers. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries. Must be available to work nights, weekends and Holidays as required and/or directed.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
