  • Oversee and manage the reputation, brand, and marketing needs for NMAI, with public facilities on the National Mall in Washington, DC and in Lower Manhattan in New York City, with the goal of supervising the fostering of local, national, and international engagement.

  • Oversee designing, implementing and developing both short- and long-range goals for strong and coordinated marketing communication strategies and implementing outreach efforts for the NMAI.

  • Develop external communication strategies to market the Museum to representatives of the Native American community, tribal officials, other museums and galleries, national and international governments, private foundations or cultural institutions, and scholars of all disciplines.

  • Oversee day-to-day public affairs efforts for the NMAI including social networking, advertising, supervising media engagement, signage, announcement and the like, direct subordinate managers and staff responsible for developing marketing plans and strategies, programs, and publications.

  • Supervise NMAI’s external communications including the public affairs, advertising, media unit and digital initiatives.

  • Serve as an influential advisor and strategist for complex communication issues at the museum. Design and implement an internal communications plan to disseminate the strategic goals and
    vision of the museum to all internal constituents.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as successfully working with editors and journalists to secure media coverage of exhibitions and/or cultural content; experience working with press in the Washington, DC and New York areas; experience supervising unit staff; and experience writing and/or producing on-line marketing materials.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Education

There is no substitution for education at this grade level.
