
Childcare Food Program Manager
Works under direction of the Child and Youth Programs Flight Chief who is available to deal with unusual situations which may occur and provide necessary guidance and instructions when performing procedurally complex duties. The supervisor spot checks work to ensure compliance with procedures and directives. Develops local operating instructions, handbooks, and forms for the JBER Child and Youth Programs Food Program (FP) which meet United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)/state requirements, and menus to meet dietary requirements for population served. Administers food purchasing guides corresponding to menus. Develops and delivers training for providers and personnel in areas of child nutrition, menu planning, cooking techniques and record/claim requirements. Develops program budget, prioritizing requirements to include food, supplies, equipment, and manpower. Supervises the Family Day Care Home (FDHC) portion of the FP. Conducts over 100 home visits and reviews to FDCH providers and centers. Ensures compliance with DAFI 34-144. Supervises the Child Development and School Age Centers food programs. Ensures the required cycle menus are executed. Designs substitutions and accommodations according to children's emergency action plan, medical statement, or approved declaration of family's special diet. Reviews menu orders, production records, meal counts, components, and servings; takes corrective action as necessary. Oversees required records and reports for the FP. Reviews and signs finalized applications, agreements, and claims sent to the State for reimbursement. Maintains detailed fiscal records to meet audit requirements. Controls the calculations, ordering, and distribution of bonus commodity foods offered by the state. Controls the FP publicity and parent education resource materials. Performs other duties assigned.

- This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.
- Must be 18 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Qualifying Experience:
Professional knowledge of dietetics and nutrition. Ability to apply specialized USDA/ Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements to the management of a local FP for both FDCH and center-based operations. Experience must be sufficient to execute menus based on USDA guidelines, instruct/train FDCH providers and center personnel in proper menu preparation/nutrition and evaluate their performance, discuss program requirements and alternatives with State, develop local written guidance for FP implementation, etc. Ability to serve as an authoritative source of information for FDHC providers and center personnel in the field of child nutrition and USDA/CACFP requirements. Practical working knowledge gained through relevant experience and/or training and education in early childhood education sufficient to develop training courses, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must hold a high school diploma and read, speak, and write English.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Child Development Program will provide 100% childcare fee discount for all CYP direct care staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 25% discount will apply for any additional children of direct care staff.
