Key Responsibilities
- Legal Research and Document Preparation: Conduct thorough legal research on family law issues, including divorce, child custody, and spousal support. Draft pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and correspondence with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Case Management: Organize and maintain case files, track deadlines, and ensure all documents are properly filed with courts and administrative agencies. Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel as needed.
- Client Support: Serve as a point of contact for clients, providing updates on case progress, gathering necessary documentation, and addressing inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
- Court and Filing Support: Prepare and file legal documents with courts, ensuring compliance with procedural requirements. Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibit organization and witness coordination.
- Discovery and Evidence Management: Assist in drafting and responding to discovery requests, organizing evidence, and preparing deposition summaries.
- Billing and Timekeeping: Track billable hours accurately and assist with client invoicing and payment processing in coordination with administrative staff.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, court rules, and firm policies, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in all tasks.
- 3-5 years of paralegal experience in family law required; 5 years preferred.
- Strong knowledge of family law procedures, terminology, and court requirements in Texas.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis); experience with case management software is a plus.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Paralegal certification or associate/bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies preferred but not required.
- Experience with CLIO preferred.
