Operations Manager – Air & Ocean Freight (Import & Export)

Houston, TX | On-Site | Global Freight Forwarder (Top 30)

We’re hiring an experienced Operations Manager to lead air and ocean freight execution across import and export channels. The role is based out of Houston and oversees full-cycle freight handling, vendor coordination, team leadership, and customer SLA adherence.

This is a frontline leadership position with full operational ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations across international air and ocean freight – import and export
  • Oversee routing, booking, documentation, and final delivery in coordination with global partners
  • Supervise operational staff to ensure on-time execution, process accuracy, and service excellence
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships with carriers, airlines, trucking partners, and overseas agents
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, client SLAs, and internal performance KPIs
  • Proactively identify and resolve service failures, escalations, and workflow inefficiencies
  • Monitor shipment lifecycle in TMS (CargoWise 1 or equivalent) and maintain clean data across all files
  • Support cost control, profit protection, and margin visibility on every file
  • Report weekly operational metrics to senior leadership and contribute to strategic execution reviews

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years in international freight forwarding (Air and Ocean – Import/Export)
  • Demonstrated leadership of an operations team, including performance coaching and SOP enforcement
  • Strong understanding of multimodal routing, freight documentation, and exception handling
  • Background working across transpacific, Europe–USA, Middle East, or ISC lanes
  • Systems experience with CargoWise 1, Magaya, or comparable platforms
  • Ability to execute under pressure in high-urgency, client-facing environments
