Position Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Backhaul Dispatcher to join our logistics team. This role is responsible for coordinating return loads (backhauls) for our fleet to maximize efficiency and reduce empty miles. You'll work closely with drivers, customers, and carriers to ensure timely pickups, efficient routing, and strong communication throughout the delivery process.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively source and schedule backhaul loads to optimize fleet utilization and reduce deadhead miles
Coordinate with internal dispatchers, drivers, and external carriers to plan efficient routes and backhaul opportunities
Communicate load details clearly to drivers, ensuring understanding of pick-up/drop-off times, addresses, and load requirements
Maintain up-to-date records in dispatch and TMS (Transportation Management System) software
Track and monitor active backhaul shipments, resolving issues or delays in real time
Build and maintain relationships with freight brokers, customers, and carrier partners
Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies
Provide exceptional customer service to both internal teams and external partners
Analyze performance metrics and suggest improvements to reduce costs and increase productivity
Skills
3pl, dispatch customer service, fleet management, freight forwarder, logistics support
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Sales or operations experience
- Bachelor's preferred not required

Understanding of freight logistics, routing, and transportation industry practices
Proficiency in dispatch software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Knowledge of DOT regulations and geographic routing is a plus
Experience with TMS platforms (e.g., McLeod, Samsara, TruckMate, etc.)
Familiarity with freight brokerage and load boards
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
