Our client, a distinguished boutique Education Law firm, is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their team! This is a great opportunity to gain significant hands-on experience and take on meaningful responsibilities in a dynamic and collaborative small firm environment.
In addition to Education law, the firm’s primary areas of focus also include Labor and Employment Law, Developmental Disabilities Law, Corporate and Commercial Law, Civil Litigation and Administrative Law. The firm’s practice includes both advising and counseling clients on non-litigation matters and federal and state court litigation, arbitration, administrative hearings and appeals.
Hybrid: 3 days on-site in Midtown NYC
Compensation: $100-150k base salary DOE + discretionary bonus + great benefits
Responsibilities
In addition to Education law, the firm’s primary areas of focus also include Labor and Employment Law, Developmental Disabilities Law, Corporate and Commercial Law, Civil Litigation and Administrative Law. The firm’s practice includes both advising and counseling clients on non-litigation matters and federal and state court litigation, arbitration, administrative hearings and appeals.
Hybrid: 3 days on-site in Midtown NYC
Compensation: $100-150k base salary DOE + discretionary bonus + great benefits
Responsibilities
- Support the firm’s general counsel responsibilities to charter schools, private schools, state-approved schools for children with disabilities, preschools,colleges, educational services agencies, and developmental disability services agencies, among other types of entities. Duties include but are not limited to: providing advice, counsel, and legal support on governance, compliance, employment, labor, policy, audit defense, contract, transactional, and litigation and quasi-litigation matters.
- Represent preschool, school age, and post-secondary students with and without disabilities in matters relating to substantive educational rights and civil rights.
- Represent institutional clients and individuals in litigation and quasi-litigation matters, including, but not limited to, preparing pleadings, motion practice, discovery, oral argument, conferencing and trial in state and federal courts, as well as supporting and, as appropriate, leading arbitrations, and administrative trials and appeals.
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admission to New York bar
- 1+ years of relevant experience
- Education or civil litigation experience preferred, not required
- Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and work ethic
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small firm environment
- Poise in interfacing with clients, adversaries, judges, and governmental agencies
