Director of Finance (Startup CFO)

Represented by Phoenix Pro Connect

Phoenix Pro Connect, a premier executive search and talent advisory firm specializing in high-impact placements across finance, technology, and operations, is proud to represent our client—a state-of-the-art technology company poised for rapid growth and innovation. This cutting-edge tech startup is on the brink of a significant milestone: an Initial Public Offering (IPO) anticipated within the next six months. As they transition from a private entity to a publicly traded company, they seek a dynamic Director of Finance to lead their financial operations during this pivotal phase.

Role Overview

This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and is eager to roll up their sleeves to drive financial strategy and execution. The Director of Finance will serve as a key leader within the organization, reporting directly to the Private Equity-backed CFO. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong technical accounting expertise who can oversee financial reporting, planning, and compliance while supporting strategic business initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience managing financial operations post-IPO, ensuring compliance with SEC regulations, and driving financial efficiencies across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Oversee all aspects of SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q, and other filings) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure that financial statements are prepared correctly by GAAP and IFRS.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and SOX compliance for a public company.

Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Develop financial forecasts, budgets, and strategic models to support corporate decision-making.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CFO and executive team.
  • Optimize financial processes to drive efficiency and scalability.

Accounting & Operations:

  • Oversee the general ledger, month-end close, and financial consolidations.
  • Manage treasury functions, cash flow analysis, and risk management strategies.
  • Lead the transition from QuickBooks to a scalable ERP system, determining the best platform for the company's future needs.

Investor Relations & Capital Management:

  • Support investor relations with financial data, earnings preparation, and disclosures.
  • Assist in managing relationships with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and compliance teams.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the private equity CFO and accounting group to align financial operations with investor expectations.
  • Build and develop a high-performing finance team as the company scales.
  • Collaborate with key business units to support financial and operational objectives.
  • Partner with legal, HR, and compliance teams to ensure company-wide financial integrity.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8+ years of finance and accounting experience, preferably in a high-growth, private equity-backed or public company environment.
  • Strong expertise in SEC reporting, IFRS, GAAP accounting, and SOX compliance.
  • CPA, CFA, and/or ACCA designation preferred.
  • Experience with financial planning, budgeting, and internal controls in a company preparing for an IPO.
  • Prior experience transitioning from QuickBooks to an ERP system is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth, and tech startup environment with a hands-on approach.
  • A mix of Big 4 or public accounting is highly desirable
