Purpose of the Position

The Electrical Engineering Manager is a mission critical role within our development team, working across many of our key product lines to design, develop, and release electronics hardware and firmware for innovative products in the fields of quantum photonics, low noise electronics, and complex integrated systems. Key responsibilities include new product ideation, electrical system architecture design, managing electrical and firmware engineering team, prototyping and development, performance validation and testing, and production release. This position collaborates heavily with all engineering and scientific staff. Additional responsibilities include conducting and supervising sustaining engineering related to electronics and firmware throughout the lifecycle of products. This position requires occasional travel less than 15%.

Must be a US person - working on ITAR products

The salary range for the position is 135-170K

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Contributes individually to electrical and firmware engineering efforts, supporting product development, sustaining engineering, and system integration.
  • Develop ideas for new products and product families based on requirements for advanced photonics applications
  • Manages a team of Electrical and Firmware Engineers to design electronic hardware and firmware.
  • Develops, maintains, and communicates project schedules and conducts periodic meetings both with the leadership team and with the product design team.
  • Acts as a lead architect during electronic system design, overseeing chip selection and system engineering.
  • Acts as a lead architect for firmware design, including FPGA and CPLD programming.
  • Acts as product manager for electronic lab instruments, collaboratively identifying product requirements, retail price constraints, and engineering resource demands.
  • Accountable for sustaining support, testing, and quality control of electronics subsystems and firmware for Colorado Laser Division products.
  • Oversees PCBA procurement and vendor relationships therein


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of engineering management experience or similar leadership role in the industry
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience designing analog and digital circuits for electronic products
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering new electronics hardware and architecting complex systems.
  • Experience with electrical design tools, Altium Designer preferred.
  • Experience in calculating and simulating circuits.
  • Experience with FPGAs, CPLDs, and embedded microcontrollers.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic circuit board testing, including commonly-used test equipment, debugging methods, and re-work
  • Experience with the procurement process for PCBs, including the creation of manufacturing drawings and bill of materials


Education: BS or MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning, prioritizing and organization and multiple priority management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with low noise and high-speed electronics.
  • Strong knowledge of programmable logic devices such as FPGAs. VHDL preferred.
  • Experience with C and C++.  Strong knowledge of SCM tools. Git preferred.
  • Strong drive and initiative to make improvements in a variety of areas with a minimum of supervision.
  • Strong commitment to personal development and growth
