Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Protection & Control Technician to support the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, powerline carrier systems, digital fault recorders (DFRs), remote terminal units (RTUs), and communication processors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in protection and control circuitry, RTU and telecom upgrades, and various microprocessor relays used in high-voltage (HV) substations.

Key Responsibilities:
Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment, powerline carrier systems, DFRs, RTUs, and communication processors.
Perform functional testing of protection and control circuitry associated with transmission lines, HV bus systems, transformers, circuit breakers, feeders, reactors, and capacitor banks.
Execute RTU and telecom system upgrades for various clients.
Work with SEL microprocessor relays, including models 311C, 311L, 387, 411L, 421, 487B, 487E, 487V, 587, 587Z, and 787.
Preferred experience with GE microprocessor relays such as C30, D60, F35, L90, T35, and T60.
Required experience with RTUs and communication processors from manufacturers such as GE, Telvent, SEL, Cooper, and Novatech.
Review, document, and submit test reports for client reporting and regulatory compliance.
Interpret and analyze one-line, three-line, wiring, and schematic diagrams, as well as communication configurations, identifying and addressing discrepancies.
Accurately complete time and expense reports while ensuring proper maintenance of the assigned company vehicle.
Required Education & Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, with a focus on protection and control equipment, RTUs, and telecom systems.
Experience working with HV utilities, cooperatives, power generation facilities, federal agencies, or municipal clients.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology, a Technical School diploma, or military experience in Army Prime Power or Navy Nuclear Electrical programs.
Hands-on experience with transmission and distribution relays, including SEL, GE, ABB, and Westinghouse models.
Experience working on substation RTUs, communication processors, and telecom equipment for both brownfield and greenfield projects.
Proficiency in project scoping, scheduling, and budgeting for protection and control, RTU, and telecom projects.
Experience managing protection and control teams in HV substation environments for utility clients.
Familiarity with NERC CIP requirements.
