
Medical Instrument Technician (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
- Perform a wide variety of complex Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations of the head, spine, extremities, and body cavity.
- Independently perform complex computerized 2D and 3D MRI scanning of the head and/or body.
- Receive and review requests from physicians and other health care providers for MRI examinations of patients.
- Train Radiologists, Physicians, and other personnel in MRI principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques, and equipment.
- Perform operator level maintenance and care of equipment.
- Adhere to the standards of Quality Control as directed by the MRI SOP.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Physical Exam is required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization and annual seasonal influenza immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
- Rotating Shift work may be required.
- May be required to perform on call duty.
- Position requires employee to wear uniform and/or protective clothing.
- This position is Key Essential and cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the office to function effectively.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; instructing in the operation of equipment related to magnetic resonance imaging or performing the operation of magnetic resonance imaging.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Radiologic Technology or Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
