
Psychiatric Technician
- Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the resident's treatment plan, admission of residents by collecting resident information, orienting residents to the facility, and checking them for contraband.
- Assists in the treatment of patients with behavioral disorders and management of medical problems. Conduct evaluations, administers psychological tests and questionnaires, assists with therapy groups, and conducts psycho-educational groups, prevention/outreach briefings and activities.
- Prepares and administers prescribed medications orally and intramuscularly per physician's orders.
- Recognizes emergency situations, responds promptly, and institutes appropriate action (initiates resuscitation measures in the event of cardio-pulmonary arrest).
- Takes vital signs and specimens. Recognizes emergency situations, responds promptly, and institutes appropriate action including in the event of cardiopulmonary arrest.
- Documents clients' progress using the policies and procedures, and treatment plan.

For GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing variety of therapies, such as small group therapy, one-to-one therapy, and/or large group therapy using standardized therapeutic resident care. Preparing and administering prescribed medications. Taking vital signs. Monitoring patients' behavioral and mental conditions. Admitting and discharging patients.

One full year of graduate education that it is directly related to the work of the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. Typically, this is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours.

Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience.
Selective Placement Factor - Psychiatric Technician license/certification:
This position requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology, nursing fundamentals, nutrition, pharmacology, psychiatric diagnoses, developmental disabilities, and psychotropic medications, as evidenced by a certification or licensure as a psychiatric technician.
