Job Description:

The Vice President Operations (VP Ops) Strategy & Design works closely with FP&A and corporate strategy to align commercial and operational initiatives. They’ll provide Leadership, direction, long-term vision and support to the Ops Strategy & Design department and work with the EVP of Operations and other Operations peers to align operations departments with enterprise objectives. The VP Ops Strategy & Design is a strategic thinker who is ready to modernize the operation and maintain our low-cost advantage in the airline industry.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the EVP of Operations to develop and drive strategic direction for Southwest operations; ensures consistent shared vision, departmental alignment, organizational objectives, and a future-focused operating plan.
  • Identify, understand, and align the capabilities required to achieve our future state vision, including establishing a clear vision and alignment of our future state operation akin to a five-year view. Balance the development of the five-year vision with solving the most immediate operational issues
  • Lead the "Modernize the Operation" initiative; Support the design and implementation of initiatives across Operational groups and in partnership with the Customer Design Team.
  • Leads Low-cost advantage initiative; Provides guidance to help develop and design evolving policies, procedures, and processes to meet changing operational and product needs while lowering the cost of Daily operations
  • Deliver project management for all cross-functional operational initiatives. Liaison with implementation Teams to build and foster alignment, collaboration, and proactive communication among the operating and commercial groups and executive Leadership within the Operations Teams
  • Drive the transformation of performance analytics to deliver strategic insights to senior leadership, enabling data-driven decision-making and enhanced organizational performance
  • Designated by the Accountable Executive as the Safety and Security Management representative for the OS&D department
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional Teams
  • Proven ability to identify problems and opportunities and lead others through organized approaches to solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to create and present a business case
  • Demonstrated ability to create and present Executive level material, including the Board of Director content required by the COO
  • Ability to communicate large and complex issues in a structured and concise manner
  • Ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information effectively
  • Exemplary written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work flexible hours and be available during emergencies on short notice

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
  • Advanced level of Business Acumen in functional area
  • Preferred: Project, portfolio, strategy and analytics experience
  • Preferred: Experience in data storytelling

Licensing/Certification

  • N/A

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Responsibilities

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information
  • Air travel with overnight stays required
