The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. Position Summary

Supervise and/or assist the Director of Accounting with all functions of the accounting office including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Treasury and External Reporting. Provide direct supervision of General Ledger Accountants. Prepare or review the financial statements and other required reports on a timely basis. Supervise, prepare and submit the indirect cost proposal. Review expense-reporting procedures for consistency with regulations and assist in rate negotiations. Supervise, prepare and submit data for the Medicare Cost Report. Monitor Medicare and Medicaid regulatory changes to insure accurate inclusion of expenses in the cost report; consistent with the state and federal regulation. Reconcile Indian Health Services Compact Funding Agreement and Contract Support Costs. Coordinate all procedures with the corporate Independent Auditors. Monitor reconciliations and adjustments for all asset and liability accounts. Prepare weekly LEAN Visual Board and implement LEAN problem-solving tools to improve operational performance.

Position Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree with major in Accounting, Business or Finance. CPA / MBA preferred.
  • Minimum Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in General Ledger Accounting, Payroll, internal audit, financial analysis, management information systems. Strong analytical capabilities.
  • License, Certification, Registration: Not required. Prefer CPA / MBA
  • Equipment/Tools: Computer, 10 Key and other normal office equipment
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
    • Excellent communication and computer skills. Extensive experience with databases, query language and Excel.
    • Experience with data analysis, project management and knowledge management.
    • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
    • Strong mathematical skills and ability to work with statistical concepts and methods.
    • Able to prioritize and delegate daily work to subordinates.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise the accounting department in the Director of Accounting’s absence, ensuring that all work is being completed and ethical management practices are followed. Interview, hire, train and follow disciplinary procedures. Perform initial and annual evaluations in a timely manner.
