The Account Director will be responsible for closely supporting the Senior Vice President to drive interwoven programs focused on communications to elevate reputation of clients’ R&D organization, which may include corporate communications, scientific communications and data milestones, digital and social strategy, internal communications, executive visibility and thought leadership.

This person will have a deep understanding of client subject matter with an emphasis in oncology, neuroscience and cardiovascular disease, an ability to communicate effectively internally as well as with clients and other external partners and an eye for flawless execution that delivers ROI.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as a day-to-day client contact on specific workstreams, and mobilizing interwoven teams towards progress, action, and results that surpass client expectations, maintaining productive relationship.
  • Own interwoven projects from inception through completion, managing execution of multiple workstreams and projects, utilizing technical and influence skills to problem-solve and keep projects timely and on-budget.
  • Lead client calls and in-person meetings, providing client with guidance and confidently addressing client questions about approach/recommendations during external calls
  • Anticipate client needs across projects/workstreams and proactively manage relationships.
  • Oversee program timelines and delegate project deliverables to team; bring potential issues and solutions to SVP.
  • Ensure ability to execute on client event logistics/show flow; attend client events and manage on-site client needs.
  • Lead translation of high scientific concepts into compelling, creative activations
  • Lead development and strategic review of communications materials and other deliverables that are thoughtful, clear and concise and align to business objectives (e.g., plans, corporate/product narratives, messages and Q&As, results reports).
  • Review materials to ensure all possibilities have been considered and client preferences are incorporated
  • Ensure team alignment through dialogue, summarizing information, ideas; ensure progress against next steps.
  • Review research findings and key takeaways to ensure communications recommendations align with account goals.
  • Provide proactive counsel on research findings, gain consensus on creative ideas, and develop initiatives.
  • Own account financials, tracking budgets to ensure appropriate spend month-to-month, provide updates to clients and team leads, as needed
  • Support development of new business proposals, applying relevant research and insights; support organic growth.
  • Help junior staff team members prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Contribute to overall client financial management; establish and meet internal client revenue targets.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, English or similar major
  • Has at least 6-8 years of agency experience, within the public relations or communications industries, including experience in healthcare and science
  • Experience on large teams between $3-5M, preferred
  • Proven ability to lead account teams and be a trusted client partner as well as manage and provide clear direction to junior staff
  • Deep understanding of client subject matter, industry landscape
  • Focuses on extreme attention to detail, highly organized with strong prioritization skills
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, independent thinking, and effective problem solving
  • Highly proactive, and forward thinking
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor, effectively operates in fast-paced, growing and evolving environment

The anticipated salary range for this position will be $110,000-$140,000. Salary is based on job-related factors such as: years of relevant experience, qualifications and/or certifications. Spectrum reserves the right to modify this pay range at any given time.
