Senior Mechanical Engineer Direct Hire
Location: Bellingham, WA | Billings, MT | Bismarck, ND | Minneapolis, MN | Spokane, WA | Vancouver, WA
Work Type: Full-time, Direct Hire
Work Authorization: Must have legal right to work in the U.S. (No visa sponsorship provided)
Onsite Requirement: First 6 months onsite; potential hybrid (Mondays and Fridays remote) thereafter
Citizenship: Canadian citizens eligible for a TN visa may be considered
This position supports all project phases with a focus on front-end and detailed engineering. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will act as the mechanical engineering lead on projects, ensuring coordination and effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
Reporting Structure:Reports administratively to the Mechanical/Structural Manager
Functionally reports to the discipline lead engineer and/or project manager/project engineer
Piping Engineering Design:
Lead piping engineering in front-end and detailed engineering phases
Develop and select piping specifications
Perform piping stress analysis calculations
Select and design piping supports
Ensure compliance with ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8
Coordinate with suppliers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams
Mechanical Equipment Specifications:
Lead mechanical equipment selection and specification activities
Ensure equipment compliance with ASME, API, and client/facility standards
Develop specification drawings
Complete hydraulic calculations for equipment sizing and selection
Additional Duties:
Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 10 years' experience in petrochemical, oil & gas, power generation, or mineral processing industries
Previous consulting experience strongly preferred
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of industrial metallurgies, welding procedures, ASME codes, corrosion mitigation, and API standards
Hydraulic analysis using tools like Design Flow Solutions, PipeFLO, etc.
Piping stress analysis using CAESAR II
Equipment analysis using NozzlePRO/FEPipe
Equipment design calculations using PV Elite
Knowledge of standards: ASME, API, PIP, PFI, MSS, ANSI
Strong communication and leadership skills
Certifications (Preferred):
PE license preferred; ability to register with NCEES and in other states
Eligibility to obtain or currently hold a valid TWIC
